ELV (End of Life Vehicles)
The End-of Life vehicles Directive (2000/53/EC), adopted on 20th October 2000, aims to prevent waste from end-of life vehicles and promote the collection, re-use and recycling of their components to protect the environment. ELV's have been identified as a waste stream that the European Union considers should receive priority attention. The first version of a European law (Directive) regulating ELV disposal emerged in 1997 and after much heated debate and lobbying by car manufacturers, finally became European law in October 2000. This new legislation introduces a range of strict regulations for everybody involved in the manufacture, use and disposal of motor vehicles. Intapart are installing specialist high volume depollution equipment to pre-treat vehicles received directly from local authorities, insurance companies, and the public. All vehicles will be checked at the reception point of the treatment facility prior to depollution. Any hazardous waste items will be removed and any fluid leaks will be safely contained. The vehicle's identity and ownership will be verified, allowing for a certificate of destruction to be issued via an electronic link with the DVLA in Swansea. Finally, the vehicle will be transferred to a covered depollution building for the safe and efficient removal of waste products for recycling. Click here for a demonstration ELV Recycling
